How to set effective goals that you want to accomplish, by Jay Three questions to ask yourself about your goals.
• Are your goals too vague and are they not specific enough…
Like when you say, you want to get fit.
When you say that do you mean, fit as a model, or fit as an athlete or a particular criteria.
Similarly, if want to make more money, specify how much money in what time period
• Are your goals too grand to be achievable…
A bigger goal or a big change needs more time and better plan
Anything big in a short time creates pressure and is often driven by impulsive actions.
Rather You need to build blocks that would actually be great foundations for future success.
Little pieces of actions that will help you bring in closer to your goals. These would add up and gain momentum.
• Are you surrounded by the right people and are you influenced by the right environment…
Like if your goal is to give up chocolate, it wouldn’t be helpful if you work in a chocolate factory, or your live next to chocolate factory or your best buddy loves chocolate, or you meet up every weekend with friends and have a chocolate cake… it is just not going to make it possible. Rather you need to be with people or environment who have the same goal and also with people who have achieved this kind of goal and made it as a habit. If you are feeling that your goal is too far away or results will take too much time, you need to make it closer. Notice and observe the small things, small changes, that you see every day or every week and be grateful for.
Learning:
Setting specific goals is the first step into turning the invisible into the visible.
